Postpartum Doula Services

The postpartum period, or "fourth trimester,"is a time of recovery and transition for a new mom. Surrounding her withemotional support, attending to her physical needs, and caring for her home andfamily allows her time and space to rest and recover from the birth, learn tofeed her new baby, and smoothly transition into her new role.

My first priority as your postpartum doula is to ensure that mom and baby are rested and relaxed, and to assist withbreastfeeding and nurturing. As your doula,I helpmom and partner bridge the often overwhelming transition to being new parents. With a doula, partners also benefit; partners are supported to clarify their ownneeds, learn how to care for their baby on their own, and actively support thenew mom.

Sibling Doula Services

Many parents would like to give their older children the option of witnessing the birth of their younger siblings but are unsure of how to handle the logistics of caring for the children during the birthing time.Asibling doula may be your answer!

As a sibling doula, I help to prepare your children for the birth, provide physical and emotional care for the siblings during the birth, and support your children during the birth experience by explaining the process and answering questions in a way that makes sense to the children and is supportive to the birthing parents.

To help prepare your child(ren) for the birth I will:

  • Visit with your family at least two times before the birth
  • Talk to them about birth and help them understand what to expect
  • During the birth, stay with them and explain what is going on
  • If you and they are comfortable, encourage and facilitate ways for them to support mama, like bringing you water or a gentle massage
  • Take them to the waiting room or elsewhere if they are feeling frightened, overwhelmed, or you want privacy
  • Visit with all of you postpartum to see how you are all doing with the new addition to your family

Whether or not you hire a sibling doula for your birth, there are things that you can do to help prepare your older children for the arrival of their siblings.

How you can help prepare your child(ren) for the birth:

  • Show them images of the baby developing in the womb
  • If you like, watch videos together of babies being born to give them an idea of what the birth might be like

Additional Services

My practice is not limited to a certain "type" of family or birth -- I am here to support your individual needs and choices, whatever they may be.

It is my opinion that adequate information and unbiased support during pregnancy and birth are basic human rights, not luxury items; it is for this reason that I offer sliding scale fees. Scholarships services are offered to young parents through the Teen-Age Parenting Programs of Redwood City and San Francisco.

To ensure full on-call availability for my clients, I typically book a maximum of 3 births per month. If you are considering hiring a doula or would like more information about my services, the sooner in your pregnancy you contact me, the better.

I am happy to bundle Childbirth Preparation Classes, Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, Placenta Preparation services for a reduced price!
